The Inspiring Story Behind Soul Boxx Catering
Chef W’s culinary expertise spans the globe, and her passion for recreating remarkable dishes led her to establish Soul Boxx Catering. What began as a small kitchen in Toronto has grown into a thriving culinary brand, serving the Niagara Region in Canada and Buffalo, NY, with a second location.
Soul Boxx stands out by offering a fusion of fresh, authentic, high-quality ingredients and the robust flavors of soul food and seafood, delivering a home-cooked experience like no other.
The Journey of Chef W
Behind this flavorful vision is the incredible journey of Chef W, our founder and owner. After earning a degree in Social Work in Canada, Chef W embarked on a transformative trip to Africa. During this time, she reconnected with her lifelong passion for cooking. As a single mother of two, she sought purpose and fulfillment, and the resounding feedback from those who tasted her food confirmed it: “You need to open a restaurant!”
Inspired by the beauty of Africa, Chef W meticulously crafted a business plan and launched her first kitchen in Toronto in 2019. However, just one week after opening, the COVID-19 pandemic brought unprecedented challenges. Chef W’s resilience and creativity shone through as she quickly adapted by introducing contactless delivery and curbside pickup. These efforts not only allowed Soul Boxx to survive but solidified its place as a beloved household name across Toronto.
Expansion and Growth
Building on her Toronto success, Chef W expanded Soul Boxx to the Niagara Region in 2022, where it quickly became a local favorite. Determined to refine her craft and elevate her business, Chef W pursued degrees in Business, Public Service, and Culinary Arts in Buffalo, NY. There, she her partner and now co-owner of Soul Boxx. Together, they combined their passion for culinary excellence and launched Soul Boxx’s first U.S. location at Buffalo’s West Side Bazaar.
The West Side Bazaar
The West Side Bazaar holds a special place in Soul Boxx’s story. After a long search for the perfect Buffalo location, Chef W recognized the opportunity the Bazaar presented. With a clear 6-to-12-month plan for expansion, Soul Boxx partnered with the Bazaar, aligning with its mission to empower entrepreneurs and foster a diverse community. This partnership beautifully mirrors Soul Boxx’s core values of resilience, community, and growth.
